General Information

This page will illustrate the operational side of BRFPD, the equipment, training, regulatory requirements, and costs associated with keeping the district functional, and able to serve our patrons in the best way possible.  The safety of our volunteers is foremost in importance, so training and equipment are critical issues that require continual updating.  We apply for many grants in various forms, many require department cost share, to help with the rising cost of doing business, but grants are not a sure thing.  Most all major components of the fire protection industry are regulated with length of service limits, and other regulations, which create severe financial hardships on districts to keep up to date on everything.

The departments apparatus inventory, and capabilities, staffing, and training levels have direct impact on our patrons insurance rates.  Healthy, functional, Emergency Services agencies are vital for our community safety!

Equipment Requirements / Costs

Equipment Requirements and Costs

Replacement costs for anything in the fire service are extremely high, so for the most part, with a couple exceptions, we rely on used equipment in good serviceable condition.  Grants awarded to us will only purchase new equipment, and we greatly appreciate them.

New built type 1 structure pumper engines $400,000 and up if you can get a quote.

New built pumper tenders $400,000 and up.

New built type 6 brush truck engines $140,000 and up.

Used in any of these categories are considerably cheaper, but still run $40,000 and up depending on age and equipment options, and usually have existing issues to contend with.

Federal Extra Property (FEP) engines we have, are for our use with no purchase or lease costs, just maintenance, insurance, etc.  These newer units are generally excess Forest Service, or ODF equipment, and work well for us, at minimal cost.

Required equipment, training, and personal protective equipment, testing, and rotational replacements are a huge financial requirement for BRFPD, but very critical, to ensure the safety of our volunteers as they respond to the needs of district patrons!
