About Us

Baker Rural Fire Protection District was formed in 1985 by local ranchers, farmers, and business owners who saw a need for fire services in the outlying areas of Baker City, Oregon.  These people volunteered their time and money, with very little to work with, to create the district we have today.  With lots of time, energy, and hard work, our volunteers provide emergency services to the patrons of our district.

Our Story

Baker Rural Fire Protection District works for the patrons of our district, and also with our neighboring districts, and agencies.  We have mutual aid agreements, and other working relationships, to support better safety for the people, and our communities throughout Baker County.  These include Baker County Rural Fire Districts, Pioneer Ambulance, Baker City Fire Department, Rangeland Fire Protection Districts, Oregon State Fire Marshal, USDA Forest Service, BLM, Oregon Department of Forestry, Baker County Sheriffs Office, Oregon State Police, and Oregon Department of Transportation, and Firewise Community Groups.

Our Services

Baker Rural Fire Protection District is approximately 96 square miles in size(see map at page bottom), surrounding Baker City, Oregon on the West, North, and East.  It also contains parts of Interstate 84, Highway 30, and Highway 86, as well as many busy county roads that serve the rural areas, and outlying residential homes and subdivisions.  The largest percentage of Baker County population resides in Baker City, and immediate vicinity, our district.  Consequently, our volunteers respond to various types of incidents, requiring multiple skill sets, and training.

PAYTON STATION

Payton Station was named to honor the Payton Family of Wingville.  Howard, Sandy, Vince, and Sheryl have been with BRFPD from before the start of the district.  Passionate, and dedicated to the department, they have served many years in service to Baker Rural Fire Protection District.  Howard as a volunteer, and Chief, Sandy as support and Board Member, Vince as volunteer and Training Officer, and Sheryl supported them all.
